Our Story & Mission
The origines of a smart packaging.
The beginning of our journey was based on a concret market demand of the early 2010s: how can we reduce our carbon footprint in an objective and quantifiable way without making sacrifices?

It was 2009. The Italian Government bans single-use plastic bags from supermarkets. The goal was to offer the market an alternative bag made of a natural and ecofriendly material that could grant the same performance, resistance and functionality.
The single-use plastic bag has the same shape and structure of the traditional bakery paper sack. The only missing part was a handle that could make the packaging just as comfortable and functional.

Bread paper sack
The idea was to add a Flat tape handle of a traditional block-bottom paper bag to the bread sack. The bottom is created once the content is placed inside the bag.

In 2010, The new bag and the whole industrial process to produce it were patented. Today the Flat bag patent is recognised at an international level.

Why not simply go for traditional paper bags? The Flat Bag idea was brought to life as alternative to plastic bags. As plastic bags are much thinner and easy to store, Flat Bag had to be strategically structured to save space and optimise the whole supply chain and reduce waste. In fact, traditional paper bags take up on average from 30 to 35% more space comparing to flat bags. This converts into a considerable logistics cost optimisation, especially on larger volumes.

Flat Bag finds its spot (pricing wise) half way between the bread sack and the traditional paper bag. This smart mix offers the market the possibility of choosing a “hybrid bag” which grants 30% carbon footprint reduction and 30 to 35% reduction of storage and logistics costs.

E-Flat
Mailing evenlopes for e-commerce activities are highly demanded. Our envelope was conceived by simply adjusting the flat bag to the e-commerce chain. No more handles! Thanks to its two side gussets, more volume is provided for larger content. Plus, the envelope aims at reducing paper waste comparing to
traditonal mailing envelopes.
Flat Pizza
As restaurants and pizzerias had to increase their takeaway activity, the Italian market required a “quick and easy” cheap and ecofriendly packaging that could help the final consumer to take away 5 to 7 pizza was only one hand. Why is it cheap? Less than half the price of what a pizza bag could cost. Why eco-friendly?
Less than half paper needed for a single-use bag.

The Flat Bag Owners Ronnie Pallaro e Marco Zanchin have over twenty years of experience in industrial engineering. Their professional journey began in 2001 in collaboration with paper packaging manufacturers.
For almost a decade, Ronnie and Marco helped paper packaging manufacturers finding the smartest solution for their paper production machinery, from project concept to machine supply. In 2008, they created their own concept of paper bag, they decided to patent it along withits entire industrial process. The following year, Flat Bag was born.
